'World War I and its Consequences for the Coexistence of Peoples in Central and Eastern Central Europe, Vol. 2' The second volume of the trilogy on the First World War is dedicated to the European States except Germany, which were involved in the Great War and were affected by the consequences. It deals with Belgium, the Baltic States and Poland, in particular Austria-Hungary and the peace treaties of Saint Germain and Trianon. Many areas with German population were separated from Austria. Hungary lost about two-thirds of its territory. Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia emerged.

Gilbert H. Gornig studied law and political sciences in Regensburg and Wuerzburg; Doctorate (Dr. iur. utriusque); Habilitation (Dr. iur. utriusque habil.). From 1990 professor at the Georg August University of Goettingen and from 1994 Dean. From 1995 to 2016 Professor of Public Law, International Law and European Law at the Philipps-University Marburg, Dean 2006 to 2012. 1996 to 2004 Judge at the Higher Hessian Administrative Court. Honorary doctorates Pécs (Hungary), Sibiu (Romania) and Temuco (Chile), visiting professor at many foreign universities, especially in China.
