This book is an autobiography in educational politics. The author describes his development as a young educational reformer at the Max-Planck-Institute for Educational Research in Berlin in the 1960s/70s and as a professor at a reform law school in Hamburg in the 1980s. As director of the German Youth Institute in Munich in the 1990s, he organized important parts of the German children and youth research and analyses PISA and its consequences eversince.
